What to Wear to Class / 10×10 Day 2

Striped top / high waisted jeans

Another day, another 10×10 challenge! This was my outfit for Saturday while I was in HTML/CSS class all day (which turns out I am really enjoying!!). Now that I am a student again and working from home, I’m finding myself reaching for much more casual outfits. But I also don’t want to look like a total slob when I’m in class. So a tucked in t-shirt is the perfect balance of looking somewhat put together and comfy!

I used to get dressed up for class when I was in college, which was really fun for me (and where I started to discover my style!). For some reason, I don’t feel the need to get that dressed up for my weekend classes now. But I also don’t think a dress is “dressed up”. All I did was put on one article of clothing and I’m good to go! Anyone else with me here?

This shirt is actually not in my capsule wardrobe (what was I thinking? I wear it all the time!) but I decided to add it for my 10×10. But I was looking at it yesterday (I wore it yesterday too with a different pair of shorts… you’ll see soon!) and it looks like it is piling a little bit.

I’ve actually picked a few different pieces that weren’t in my capsule wardrobe this summer for this challenge. I just didn’t want to get really burned out of my wardrobe before the summer was over.

For my 10×10, I chose mostly neutral bottoms and more pattered tops. I thought I was going to do it the other way around but it just worked out this way if I picked out solid colored pants/skirts/shorts. Since this challenge started on Friday, I have had to move around some pieces and decide what I really needed. For example, turns out I need a sweater! My classes are in a very air-conditioned building so it can get chilly, which also makes me very glad I threw in these pair of jeans at the last minute on Friday.

    Summer 10×10 Challenge Day one!

Welcome to the first day of the Summer 10×10 challenge! I am so excited to try out this challenge.

If you don’t know what the 10×10 challenge is, it is a style challenge where for 10 days you wear 10 different items. I think it is based more on instagram because there are so many hashtags and whatnot but I decided to keep track of it on my blog too!  It was started by the blogger Lee at Style Bee.  I thought with my Capsule Wardrobe this summer it would be the perfect opportunity to try it out!

I started off easy on the first day by throwing on a dress. This challenge was kind of hard for me not to just pick tons of dresses! But I’ve got some other pieces… just wait and see. Today though, I wore my favorite dress this summer. It really is my favorite outfit this summer. I wasn’t up to much this day as I was just working from home so I wanted to be comfortable.

I thrifted this Old Navy dress back in the spring because I thought the color combination was absolutely beautiful! I would never pair bright blue and orange together on my own but somehow on this dress, it really works. I also got this dress in a couple of sizes too big so it is nice and slouchy (pro tip for the utmost comfort!). I have featured my shoes a lot but they really are my favorite summer shoe! They are actually children shoes but they work perfectly for me.

When perusing the hashtags for these challenges, most people stick to a pretty neutral color palette. But I definitely have some patterns and bright colors! I think this will be a good challenge for me to discover new color combinations and different ways of wearing my clothing. I’m also excited to try different silhouettes with my clothing too! I’ve been wearing a lot more midi/maxi skirts/dresses lately so I am excited to see how I can mix those up with this challenge.

Thinking about it, I say I have never done a challenge like this but it really is just like traveling! I’ve gone on 3 week long trips with just a carry-on and that was probably less than 10 items of clothing! I guess it will be different while I am not traveling because I still have access to all of my other clothes but I won’t be wearing them.

Have you tried the 10×10 challenege?

CRUELTY-FREE PRODUCTS YOU SHOULD TRY THIS SUMMER

    Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I’ve been trying out quite a few different cruelty-free beauty products this summer, most of which are pretty inexpensive and from the drugstore! I am normally not one to try full-size beauty products as I receive a Birchbox each month but for recently I had the desire to try out some new products.

I’m slowly working my way to being 100% cruelty-free and Elf is a great place to start! Inexpensive and cruelty-free? Yes, please! So I recently picked up the Elf Total Face Palette. I received this in a Target beauty box and I’m surprised at how much I like it! There are two different blush shades a highlight, and a bronzer, I am afraid to use the bronzer as I am so pale but I love the blushes! The peachy-pink blush on the bottom is just beautiful. You do have to layer on the highlight but for the cost, you really can’t go wrong.

Next, I’ve been trying the moisturizing face Primer by Elf. I surprisingly really like this! For only $6, it really does moisturize my face and keep my makeup on without that horrible silicon feeling in a lot of primers. It still has that odd texture a little bit but it is nothing terrible.

My last two discoveries are probably my favorites though. I picked up this “take me home” palette by colourpop at Ulta a few months ago and I love it! The colors are so vibrant and pretty. They are very pigmented and (although the gold shade has quite a lot of fallout!). It’s also really compact so perfect for traveling.

The last product I actually received in my Birchbox and it is the Laura Geller Glam lash Mascara. It’s a bit pricier at just over $24 dollars but it’s wonderful! I was worried I would never find a mascara as good as my trusty Clinique but I would never have thought to look at Laura Geller. It volumized my lashes without clumping and lasts all day. Overall, I am really impressed with it.

For a long time, I thought to go cruelty-free was going to be really difficult. I thought I could never replace the trusty classics that I reach for all the time. But I was wrong! You can! Trying these products made me feel a lot better about eventually making the switch fully. But for now, I’ll take some baby steps.

Have you tried any of these products before?

The Easiest Way to Wear Gingham Pants

    how to wear gingham pants

I never really thought gingham would be such a huge trend as it is now but everyone is wearing it this summer! I also tend to shy away from the preppier styles and prints, like gingham, but for some reason, these trousers just spoke to me! Today I’m going to be sharing the easiest way to wear gingham pants for the summertime!

Since thrifting them a few years ago, I’ve worn them countless times, especially this summer. I knew I wanted a pair of patterned pants in my capsule wardrobe (more coming soon!) as they are a staple for my wardrobe and these gingham pants are perfect for summer! They are originally from LOFT but are actually great quality! I’ve worn them countless times over the years and they still look and feel brand new.

I’ve found the easiest way to wear them is with a simple tank top like the one I have on here. I thrifted this top as well (surprise, surprise!). I try to stay away from low-quality fast fashion at the thrift store but Old Navy is one fast fashion brand I will pick up from time to time. I’ve found that simple tank tops like this last for a really long time.

My shoes are just simple flats but I love how they pull the entire look together by semi-matching the top!

    Welcome to Layers of Lee!

    Welcome to Layers of Lee!

I am so excited to finally announce my new website!

I’ve had my blog, Lee Thrifts, for about 3 years now. When I first started I rigidly posted 3x/week. And then that slowly started to trickle as I started a full-time job, gaining new friends, and having some health issues. I would post to it every so often (when the creativity struck) but I knew with all of my life changes recently I wanted to start taking this blog more seriously. I am sure the few readers I have left have noticed my lack of content. It is not because of lack of ideas but rather the fear of this whole thing. The fear of what people might think, the fear I’ll be a failure, the fear that I am not actually any good at this. But as I’m reaching 26 (!), I am starting to realize that none of that matters in the slightest.

This is something I truly enjoy and if that is the case, shouldn’t I keep pursuing it? Shouldn’t I make this hobby something I am proud of? Shouldn’t I at least give it a chance to be something?

So what can you expect from this space going forward?

Lots of thirfted content, beauty, reselling tips/tricks, and hopefully, some travel content is thrown in there for good measure! So, what I’m trying to say is my content at its core isn’t going to change very much. I am still going to be posting outfits, favorite beauty products, and video content but it’ll be so much betterI started a certificate at a local University in digital marketing and that has given me the push and motivation to work on this site. It might never be my job but I can at least give it a try.

I am hoping to post every day on this blog going forward. I think one of the best ways to be seen is to work really hard and get as much content out there as I can. I also just remember when I moved back home after college the one thing I loved doing was working on this blog and creating content. So I want to take what I’m leaning in my digital marketing classes and apply them here.

So Welcome to the new chapter in my online life – Layers of Lee!

What kinds of content would you like to see from me going forward?
