I suppose I should start with the life update because that’s why you’re all here, right? If only I could portray my sarcasm on the internet.
Anyways – I have some VERY exciting trips planned for the near future! When I was living in Arkansas I volunteered my seat on a flight home and I got over 1,000 dollars in delta dollars! (Seriously. Volunteer your seat if you ever have the chance!) I have to use this money within the year so I decided to go to Paris in December!! I’m going to Europe for three weeks with my dear friend, Shane, and I couldn’t be more excited. One of my very best friends is teaching ESL in France and I’ve been wanting to visit her ever since I graduated in May.
The reason I decided to go in December? Another exciting tidbit of my life ladies and gentlemen – I’m moving back to Arkansas! My friend needed a roommate and I need a change of scenery. I know, it doesn’t sound like the most exciting place in the world but I grew to really love it and I still know many people still out there.
Anyways – the outfit! I started off with this striped dress I got from Primark when I was studying abroad. For a 7$ dress – it sure has held up well. I try and stop myself from wearing everyday. It’s just so comfortable! I also wore a faux suede jacket I picked up from the Urban Outfitters sale rack a few years ago. I always seems to forget about this jacket but now it’s totally back in style! It’s got a really fuzzy inside so it’s super warm.
My favorite part of my outfit is definitely my scarf though. Also an urban outfitters find – it’s a giant blue and red scarf with tassels! It’s got an abstract print on it, which I think works really well with the structured stripes on my dress. I also find pattern mixing to be a lot easier if one item is colorful and the other is monochrome. It makes everything a bit less overwhelming.
As for my shoes I went for my black loafers I picked up from Payless for 7$! They are pretty plain but perfect for exploring! I guess I didn’t wear anything thrifted in this outfit! I didn’t even realize that. I think that’s the first time it has happened in a while.
Enough rambling – I hope you enjoyed this post! What did you think of my pattern mixing? Do you have any exciting travel plans coming up?

It’s really strange but I feel like my entire life did a 180 last week. I went from feeling so sad and overwhelmed (for 5+ months) to so excited about life. The past few months haven’t been easy for me so I’m really glad things seem to be turning around. So, in honor of feeling happy and looking forward – I wore a bolder outfit to celebrate.
There are a few reasons why I’m so excited about life, which I’ll share with you all once I get the details planned out (it involves a good bit of travel & moving!). But also – the weather! I know I’ve been saying this a lot recently but I am truly so excited the weather is cooling down. I forgot how much I love wearing layers. And tights? Oh my god, I missed them. No need to shave my legs anymore, amiright?
Anyways – enough rambling! the outfit!
This blazer is probably the coolest item of clothing I have in my closet right now. Probably ever. No doubt about it. I found it at a Buffalo Exchange last year and got it for free because they took some of my old clothes. I don’t get to wear it too often but when I do – it’s a good day.
As for the rest of my outfit I decided to try wearing a velvet dress I thrifted (orignally Forever 21) just to add something else a little bit different to the look! I also wore some maroon tights from Forever 21 as well as my trusty black booties from Nordstrom.
I also wore a nice berry lip since it matched so well with the jacket! This look is a bit daring for me so I’d probably wear it to a party where it might be a bit more acceptable. But I really love how the mixtures of the textures and colors worked.

As a really petite person I try and stay away from oversized items. Maxi skirts/dresses, oversized sweaters, etc all tend to swallow me up. But I found this oversized pinstriped shirt from a yardsale for 50c. and for some reason I felt compelled to try it out. It was actually labeled a large but I decided to go for it because it didn’t look too long for me.
I believe this shirt is a women’s shirt but it reminded me of all the posts and trends going around about wearing your boyfriend’s clothes (which I don’t have) so here is my take on it!
I’m not going to lie – I felt a bit like Ellen Degeneres wearing this outfit (but what’s wrong with that?).I’m a big fan of menswear and I thought this shirt would be the perfect addition to my wardrobe. I also thought it would be nice to be able to make it a bit more casual with jeans. I paired the shirt with my dark wash skinny jeans from American Eagle that I’ve had for quite a long time. But you could easily wear this shirt tucked into a skirt.
I also paired the oversized top with a more fitted red vest I thrifted forever ago. It’s a lightweight wool vest so it’s perfect for the changing seasons and keeping me a little bit warmer. I also just went with my classic black booties from Nordstrom as I love how they look with cuffed jeans!
That’s it for my super casual oversized button-down look! I guess I tend to post more casual looks on the weekend if that is okay with everyone.
As always – please let me know what you think in the comments.
I’ve been trying to make a point of going on walks everyday and I happened upon this nature trail near my house. I’m really happy I found this trail and I’m excited to keep photographing here for upcoming blog posts! I’m pretty happy with how these photos turned out.
Anyways – the outfit.
Stripes are by far my favorite print. I own at least eight striped shirts and way too many other items of clothing for it to be acceptable. But I’ve been waiting until it gets cooler to bring out this striped sweater. I picked it up from a thrift store (originally H&M) this summer and it’s just been hanging in my closet begging to be worn. I went on a walk a few days ago and the mornings are finally feeling crisp and cool.
This outfit is actually pretty H&M heavy by accident. I’ve featured this burgundy skirt before on my blog but it is definitely a staple in my wardrobe. I picked it up in the sale last summer for 5$! It’s the perfect high waisted skater skirt. I’ve become really obsessed with jewel-tones this fall and this one is no exception.
I also love my tights in this outfit. I found them at Target on sale and knew I had to get them. They are a somewhat baroque print and so stunning on. They’re thin so it’s perfect for this time of year when it’s chilly but not too cold out yet that I need thicker tights on. I found my boots at a thrift store when I used to live in Arkansas and turns out they are rodeo boots! They were hardly worn when I found them so I know they will last me ages, which is great. I also just worn a pair of gray socks from Urban Outfitters.

I think Fall is finally here in the south and I am so excited. I forgot how great it feels to spend time outside and not melt! What a novel idea huh? While it wasn’t cold enough to wear tights I did decide it was time to break out a sweater or two and prepare for the colder months ahead. But I feel like this outfit is very appropriate for October – especially considering halloween is just around the corner!
I can’t decide if I pull off orange or not but I just love this sweater. It’s soft, comfortable, and has a high neckline! Even if I can’t pull of this sweater – I’m going to wear it all A/W long. Even though it is a very vibrant orange I still think it’s pretty acceptable for the fall season. And as I’m sure it’s no surprise – I picked up this sweater at a thrift store last spring. It’s a vintage brand so I was really surprised by how great of condition it was in.
I’ve also decided that I love orange and navy together – especially this navy polka-dot skirt! Again, I thrifted this polka dot skirt probably two years ago and I am so glad I picked it up. It didn’t have a tag so I just decided to try it on and thankfully it fit perfectly. As for my shoes – I wore my navy converse that I’ve had for probably eight years! So, they are exceptionally dingy but what can you do? I’ve taken these shoes all over the world (literally) so I’m surprised they’ve held up this long.
I picked up my necklace at a store in Durham, North Carolina called the “Scrapyard Exchange.” It’s definitely not a thrift store – more of a junk shop but it’s got a nice vintage jewelry section. I picked up this silver necklace for only 4$! What a steal. If you’re ever in the Durham, NC area you should definitely check out the scrap exchange. I found some great vintage postcards as well that I plan to send out to some friends soon. But it’s definitely somewhere you have to dig – but if you’re a thrifter like me it will be right up your street!
