    Old Favorites & New Trends

I think I’ve discovered my dream fall outfit. This combination feels so quintessentially me in a way that I haven’t felt in a long time. But perhaps that is because I’ve added a lot of items of clothing that I’ve had for a long time (or some variation of) but mixed it in with some newer, trendier pieces. But let’s start out with the old favorites.

I actually haven’t worn my black vest in a few months. I think I went through a phase where I wore it too much that I got kind of sick of it. But I’ve been enjoying incorporating it into my fall wardrobe again. I’ve had it for about three years now but it’s originally from Charlotte Russe (where I probably wouldn’t even step foot into today!). Another old favorite is my hat.  I featured it in a recent blog post (here) but what can I say!? It’s a fall staple! Everyone needs a good black hat in their wardrobe for fall!

The new additions to my wardrobe are my black jeans and my top. While my black jeans are new I wouldn’t say they’re a new styling piece for my wardrobe. I was really just replacing an old faded pair from the past couple of years. I spent a little bit on these as I know they will last for a really long time (and I will wear them SO much). My top is my most recent purchase though (and admittedly quite trendy even though it’s from the thrift store).  It’s actually an Anna Sui top, which I was really excited to find secondhand. I just love the flutter sleeve detail with the lace!! It’s the little details that suck me into buying (another) button down from the thrift store.

I really feel like this outfit pulls together some of my favorite fall classics and some newer trendier pieces. I’d say my black mules are also pretty trendy but I did get them from Target last spring. I think they are a shoe that will actually last for a couple of more years and not die down like some other trends. Thankfully for you, Target still has some very similar pairs that I’ve linked below!

The Sweater I Never Knew I Needed

I have been thirfting a lot lately. I mean probably a couple of times a week at this point. I’d say about 90% of the time though it is for my business (Poshmark). But the other 10% means I occasionally pick up something for myself, which probably isn’t the healthiest thing to do in the world by continuously bringing in new clothes to my closet. But a lot of the times I end up selling them so I don’t feel as bad that I’m bringing things into my closet.

I’ve also talked quite a bit recently about impulse purchases from the thrift store and how they can be a hit or miss. This sweater is another one of those impulse purchases. Right before checking out I was checking out some sweaters and saw this pink J.Crew wrap sweater. I’ve actually seen a lot of wrap sweaters in retail stores (Loft, Madewell, J.Crew) so I decided to pick this one up on a whim. Normally with sweaters, I can judge if they’ll fit and don’t really need to try them on.

One reason I picked up this sweater is that it is going to be so versatile in my wardrobe! In this outfit, I’m wearing it with a dress but I can also see myself wearing it with jeans, a skirt, patterned pants, anything! It might be a bit of a Spring color in the pink but I also don’t really care. It’s cozy for this season too.

Funnily enough, my dress is also a wrap style, which I’ll be sure to remix on the blog soon! It’s also a thrifted impulse purchase but it’s the perfect thing to dress up or down.  I also really like the asymmetrical hem. I love the style of wrap dresses but normally the *real* wrap dresses with the ties bother me to no end and don’t fit me. This dress is a fake wrap dress! It’s got the style of one but it isn’t too big or revealing.

What do you think of the wrap sweater? Will you be rocking on this fall?

    Styling Gingham for Fall

    Styling Gingham for Fall

I’ve done quite a few posts when the seasons change but I love finding new ways to wear my clothing for different seasons. Especially very summery prints like gingham. But I think I’ve discovered the perfect way of styling gingham for fall! The key? Lots and lots of layers. Layers a sweater over a gingham top. Orange hues with gingham pants. It’s all about what you pair with the summer pieces to make them work year round.

I knew when I picked up this gingham dress a few weeks ago that it would be the perfect dress to layer in the fall. It’s nice and lightweight for summer but paired with a turtleneck and tights it turns into the perfect dress for fall! It was super chilly the morning I shot these photos I paired it with my favorite faux-suede jacket. I picked it up from Urban Outfitters years ago for probably $30 but it’s been a staple in my wardrobe every fall & winter since.

I also threw on my favorite felt hat as it is such a good fall accessory to have! This is another longstanding item in my closet. I think I’ve had it for almost 7 years! I feel like everything I’m wearing here will be items I have for a long time. Except I might need to invest in a new black turtleneck soon… mine is piling like crazy! I guess that’s what you get for buying Forever 21 pieces secondhand haha (and wear them over and over and over as I do with this turtleneck!).

How to Wear Bright Colors in Fall

If you’ve been a follower of mine for a while you know that I love a good bold color. But fall isn’t really known for its bright palette but rather it’s subdued mustards, dark greens, and berry shades. Don’t me wrong, I love some good fall colors but sometimes I still want to bust out a bright floral skirt! This skirt is one I thrifted a few months ago (originally for my Poshmark) but I decided I also love it too much, which happens quite a lot. I think it would be a perfect Spring skirt but I wanted to try it out for fall!

Because this skirt has a lot of bright colors I wanted to keep the rest of my outfit really simple. I paired it with my simple black 3/4 sleeve top I thrifted years and years ago! It was originally from Forever 21 but I picked it up for probably $2 but it has served me well over the years! I probably will need to find a new blacktop that isn’t so faded soon…

It wasn’t too cool the day I shot these photos so I didn’t need tights but I think this skirt would look just as adorable with chunky sweater and tights! But I just wore a black cardigan as it was still a little chilly and I needed another layer.

Definitely, my favorite part of the look though is my shoes! I love finding vintage leather shoes at the thrift store. Those and dresses are probably my favorite things to thrift. Maybe it’s because I have such a hard time finding shoes in general but these are a perfect fit. I found them while I was in NYC and I’m so glad because my other favorite pair of loafers are broken (hopefully can be fixed but we’ll see…).

But I really do think bright colors are still easy to wear in the fall. I just like to add some basic elements to my outfit to make sure the bright colors are the main focus of the outfit!

    Cherry on Top

It’s finally sweater weather!!! I am so happy. I’m sure you’ve read so many bloggers talking about how they feel like totally new people in the Fall but I really do! I feel so much more motivated. I have a few goals for the rest of the year so I’m feeling excited to finish the year off strong. Should I do a blog post on my goals for the rest of the year? Anyways, on to the clothes…

I’ve been waiting to wear this sweater for so long! I thrifted it back in the Spring when it was getting too warm to wear a sweater so I’ve been patiently waiting to wear it until now. Isn’t it adorable!? I just love the cherry print and the buttons in the back! I believe it’s from the Loft, which is where a lot of my (thrifted) wardrobe seems to come from lately. I love finding lightweight sweaters at the thrift store. You can normally find some pretty good quality ones for fairly inexpensive!

I’ve featured my jeans before on the blog but I LOVE them! They are a little bit baggy but they are so comfortable. Again, a thrifted piece but I love showing you guys my favorite thrifted pieces of the moment!

My boots are sadly not thrifted but rather from Payless. It can be pretty tricky to find shoes that are secondhand. These boots were part of the 60% clearance they were having because the store was closing (crying on the inside). At first, I was worried they were a little snug but they actually fit perfectly and are so comfy! Payless can be a bit tricky when it comes to comfort but these broke in really quickly. And for only $10 how can you beat that!?
