    Sucker for a Statement

It’s no secret if you’ve been reading this blog for a while that I love a good statement piece. I love bright colors and patterns so when I saw this skirt at the thrift store I knew I had to try it on! I’ve actually had it for a while but I just haven’t featured it on the blog yet. It used to be a staple in my winter work wardrobe if I wanted to wear something a little bit more fun to the office. It’s a nice thick wool so it keeps me warm even on chillier days! It is a little bit big in the waist but I actually like that because that means I can tuck in thicker sweaters and I don’t get that weird bulkiness that can sometimes happen!

My sweater is a rare retail purchase I made recently. I wasn’t planning on doing any Black Friday shopping but then I stopped by Ann Taylor Loft where everything was 50% off! Sometimes it can be really nice to go to a store where you know things will fit you (thank you, petite sizing!). Most of my sweaters have sleeves that are too long but this one fits perfectly! I mean, it is an XXS Petite but what can you do?

My hat is actually one of the older pieces in my wardrobe. I’ve probably had it for 7 or so years! I bought it from Urban Outfitters and I remember, at the time, thinking it was way too expensive for a hat. But it has definitely gotten its cost per wear over the years!

In other news, I had a really nice and relaxing Thanksgiving weekend and I hope everyone did, too! I got to see some family I haven’t seen in a long time and overall, just relax this weekend. I did do a little Back Friday shopping as I mentioned but I’ll be doing a little haul when my online order comes in from Ulta! But that also brings me to another point… Should I do blogmas this year?? I had a lot of fun with it last year so I’m thinking it might be fun again. I’d also like to do more video work too so we’ll see! I have a lot of ideas.

    Feeling Pink

I have a feeling I will be wearing this outfit a lot in the upcoming months. As much as I love the rust tones of fall, something about a good pale pink gets me every time (#millennialpink?) For most of the fall season, I’ve been looking for a pale pink sweater. I originally wanted it to wear with a green midi skirt I have (here) but turns out it goes with everything in my wardrobe! I never thought of myself as a lover of pink but as I look at my wardrobe, a lot of it is this lighter shade of the color. Perhaps it’s my old ballerina coming out or me embracing my feminine side more but either way, I’m into it.

I genuinely think I’ve worn this sweater four times in the past week. I went to a wedding last weekend and wore it for an event there, I wore it on the drive home, and I wore it the day I shot these photos! It was new with tags (NWT) at the thrift store so I did pay up for it a little bit but it was DEFINITELY worth it! It’s a wool and cashmere blend but it’s the perfect mixture of soft and cozy! I have a hard time with wool sweaters because they are oftentimes too itchy but this one is perfect. I haven’t felt uncomfortable in it at all.

I should also mention the other items in my outfit because I love them just as much as the sweater! I picked up the scarf the same thrift trip as the swearer (and it was only a dollar!) and knew I’d wear it all winter long. I love a  good blanket scarf. Talk about cozy! I have one other in a gray ombre and have been looking for a big cozy scarf like it since. This one hit the mark perfectly.

I bought my boots from Old Navy about a month ago. When they came in the mail, I was a bit hesitant about them and wasn’t sure if I should return them or not. But I am so glad I didn’t! I think they’ve got the perfect amount of glitter that they just add something extra to an outfit. Plus, they are so comfortable! I was worried they wouldn’t be based on my last Old Navy shoe experience but these boots haven’t caused me any issues.

Skincare Routine for Winter: Day and Night!

Skincare routine for winterWinter is fast approaching and that means vamping up my skincare routine! I have a few tried and true skincare products that I use year-round (here’s looking at you Micellar Cleansing water & tea tree oil!) but when the weather starts to get a little bit chilly I like to switch up my skincare so that I make sure I get all the moisture I need. So I thought I’d share my daytime and nighttime skincare routine

    Morning

My routine is not too complicated and it doesn’t change too much when it comes to my winter skincare routine. But I have added a few steps that I think really help. In the morning, I like to first use a Micellar water and toner. My favorites are the Garnier Micellar water and the Body Shop’s tea tree oil toner. The last step in my morning skincare is a moisturizer. I’ve been switching between two moisturizers – the Aveeno Moisturizer and the Glossier Moisturizer primer.

I’ve talked about the Aveeno moisturizer before but my friend gave me the Glossier one because it didn’t work for her skin (Thanks, Michelle!) but I actually really enjoy it! I was worried it was going to be too harsh due to the retinol in it (and I use retinol at night). But it’s actually very lightweight and not harsh on my skin at all (just make sure you apply some SPF before heading outside!). I find this moisturizer leaves my skin moisturized for the whole day and if I wear it alone it adds a nice glow! My friend said it really didn’t work for her when applied makeup but I haven’t found that to be an issue either.

    Night

Recently I’ve been switching around my nighttime skincare routine. If I’m wearing makeup, I start off with the Ponds cleanser. I used to use the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, which I LOVE but I didn’t feel like paying $23 for it right now. So, I decided to try out a drugstore alternative. And the Ponds one is working great! It’s gentle on my skin but still removes my makeup. For my eye makeup, I just use the Micellar water again. It’s easy and gentle. After I take off my makeup I like to do another cleanse in the shower so I use the Keihl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser. It’s not harsh on my skin and doesn’t dry it out!

One thing that has changed is I’ve been dealing with some pretty annoying chapped lips lately. I’ve been dealing with some very chapped lips for a while now, even in the summer! I was getting pretty fed up as I’d tried almost every chapstick I could find at the drugstore. But then I found the Burt’s Bee’s lip scrub. I know scrubs aren’t normally recommended for your face as they can be too harsh but this product has helped my lips SO MUCH! They make my lips so smooth and I just put some Burt’s Bee’s chapstick over once I take it off and my lips feel like perfection!

    Pattern Mixing for Fall

Yesterday my classmates were all talking about how terrible the foliage was this year. Obviously, they were just looking in the wrong places! The park near me is full of beautiful trees but sadly, I’m not sure how many photos I’ll get there this week. As I write this, it is pouring outside and it doesn’t seem like it’ll be stopping anytime soon. But I really can’t remember a fall this colorful. It really is magical!

And last week when I shot these it was pretty warm! The temperature finally dropped this weekend but I was definitely comfortable in just a skirt and long-sleeved top last week. I still think this is such a perfect fall outfit! And, of course, everything besides my shoes is secondhand.

This shirt has become such a staple in my wardrobe over the past year. I love when I bring a piece home from the thrift store and I can find so many more ways to wear it than I first imagined! I picked up this shirt last spring and loved pairing it with jeans or work pants. It’s an easy and comfortable shirt that I’ve found pretty useful in my wardrobe, especially with red becoming a more dominating color. I also love this pleated skirt I picked up years ago from the thrift store. I never would have thought they’d pair so well together but something about the patterns works wonderfully!

My shoes are new (I thought I had ruined them with this gloomy shoot but thankfully not!) as Old Navy was having a pretty big sale recently. I hadn’t tried their childrens’ shoes so I picked up these flats for a mere $10! But let me tell you…. they are so. painful. They’ve gotten a little bit more comfortable as I’ve worn them a few times (and with lots of band-aids!) but I wouldn’t say they are comfortable yet.

    How to Rock Colorful Workwear

How to Rock Colorful Workwear How to Rock Colorful Workwear

Today I’m bringing you another way to wear bright colors in fall! I felt a little bit like a flight attendant in this color combo but oh, well! I still love it. If I still worked in an office, I’d be rocking this every day. It might be a little bit too colorful if you work somewhere really corporate but it would have been perfect for my business casual office where I used to work. I think the key is for wearing bright colors to the office is to keep your patterns to a minimum. I normally love to wear a lot of patterns but color blocking is always a great way to wear multiple colors at once!

I took these photos pretty early in the morning (on the only day we’ve had some Sun this week!!) and getting ready and heading somewhere made me kind of miss it. But next week I’ll be talking more about what I’ve learned from working from home and the pros/cons.

Even though I don’t work in an office, I still have a weakness for a good blazer. This thrifted one is no exception – especially in such a pretty and vibrant hue for Fall! And I can’t tell you all how much I’ve been wearing this red blazer. It’s originally from Anthropologie (another piece I had planned to sell but loved it so much…) but I picked it up for around $2, which is a steal for such a beautiful statement blazer! My dress is also a thrifted find but I found it a few years ago and it’s still going strong in my closet.
