    Spring Workwear Essentials

I’ve mentioned it a few times but I’m not someone that could have a capsule wardrobe, I don’t think. I love having options when I get dressed in the morning but…

If I were to have one, all of these pieces would make the cut. I picked up this dress recently and I am in love. It is the perfect workwear dress while still showing a little bit of my style. I love the tie detail on the front. It is so flattering! And I could see this dress working on any body shape! It’s a little long for me (but I’m only 4’9″) but I like it this length as it makes it more appropriate for work.

I’ve featured my shoes and watch a few times on the blog before but they are the perfect business casual essentials. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to wear these flats every day. While finding them online (here) I’m wondering if I should invest in the black pair as well! They are such a classic.

Another classic – my watch! I never thought I’d be one to wear a designer watch but oh, boy have I gotten my wear out of it this year. I have a feeling this watch will be in my wardrobe for a long, long time. I’ve had other watches but they never seem to last. You can tell the quality of this watch is superior though. Whenever I put it on in the mornings it gives me that extra “oomph” I need to get through my day (does that sound silly???).

    Skincare Saviors

I have definitely been slacking on my blog lately and focusing more on youtube. So, to get me back on track I thought I’d share some of my favorite recent skincare products. I have been investing more in my skincare products lately and I really have been noticing a difference.

I am really loving my skincare routine lately. I feel like my skin looks glowy, refreshed, and acne-free! Isn’t that we are all looking for? My morning routine is fairly easy as I feel like I am always rushing out the door to get to work. I started using the Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Facial Moisturizer  in the mornings. I have always struggled with finding the right moisturizer for the mornings but this one is perfect. It’s got SPF, is lightweight, inexpensive, and is good for sensitive skin!

As for my skincare in the evenings, that is where it get’s a bit more extensive. If I’m wearing makeup, I start off with the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. I know this product is a bit pricey but man, it has done wonders for my skin! I normally just use a hot washcloth after I put it on my face to rinse it off and it takes off my makeup wonderfully.

In the shower, I like to do another cleanse just to make sure I’ve gotten everything off from the day. I’ve been using the Kiehl’s Facial Cleanser every night. You really don’t need a lot of product as it is quite thick but it gets the job done! I can tell that my face is so much cleaner having used it. But it also hasn’t stripped my face of moisture like some other cleansers I’ve tried.

I do have incredibly dry skin though, as I’ve mentioned, so I decided to pick up a night cream. I recently picked up the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Night Cream from Target. I’ve always loved Palmer’s as their products smell divine. This product is definitely thick don’t get me wrong. But it hasn’t broken me out at all! I really find that my face just drinks up all the moisture at night, which is why I only have one skincare step in the morning.

Have you tried any of these products?

The Jacket You Need for Spring

I definitely didn’t intend to be gone for over 2 weeks… but alas, life happens.

But anyways! Today I thought I’d talk about the perfect spring jacket. I picked up this jacket on my recent trip to Laramie, Wyoming vlog) where I did a lot of vintage shopping. For some reason, Laramie has the best little thrift store. So my friend and I ended up there twice in one weekend! Oops.

I ended up splurging and buying the coolest vintage Levi’s jacket! It fits me perfectly and the color is great for spring. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good denim jacket but this bright navy jacket goes with everything! I love that it goes with my dark denim here but also lighter washes, which I wear a lot in the spring.

I mean, if spring would ever get here… we got hit with another cold spell and I am sick. of. it. I switched out my closet a few weeks ago to my spring/summer clothes and turns out, that was definitely premature!

And I know I featured these mules in my last post but guys – I can’t stop wearing them! They are so comfortable and chic! My friend even said they are a fantastic dupe for those Gucci mules all the ~fashion bloggers~ have so I was pretty excited. I definitely think they look more expensive than they really were (and they were in the kids’ section!).

    Jeans: American Eagle

    Shoes: Target

    Bag: Stitch Fix

What do you think about a navy jacket?

Feeling Guilty for Buying Fast Fashion

Without really trying, I’ve always been a somewhat ethical consumer by shopping secondhand. It wasn’t the reason I started shopping secondhand but it makes it a lot easier to do so when I know I’m helping the environment and not supporting fast fashion. But I did something a few weeks ago I never do. I went to the mall. I don’t really know why. I was just feeling in the mood to browse (and apparently buy!). So, I went to H&M and picked up this shirt.

As much as I LOVE thrifting, it can be really nice to go into a store, find something you like, and find the correct size right away. But then the guilt starts…

I’ve seen the True Cost. I follow a lot of ethical fashion brands. I know that shopping from fast fashion is terrible not only for the environment but also for the people working in the factories making the clothes. But we aren’t perfect and I’ve slipped up lately. I am also finding it near impossible to find shoes that would fit me that are ethical.

I try not to let it bother me too much if I slip up every now and then because, in reality, I hardly ever shop retail. Sure, I’ll browse but I hardly ever purchase anything. And if I do, I make sure I wear it to death. But there is still that creeping voice in the back of my head telling me I messed up and I shouldn’t enjoy the shirt I purchased. I guess I just have to accept that I am human and I am not going to be perfect with my fashion choices 100% of the time. I’m learning that it is okay to mess up sometimes when it comes to trying to be an ethical consumer.

But sometimes if I get into this spiral about thinking about the world, I never stop. I think about how maybe I should go zero waste or I should be vegan. It becomes a cycle of me thinking I’m not doing enough. But the truth is? I am. I’m one person and I have a lot of other things to worry about and things that need to occupy my mind right now.  So, if I buy a cheap shirt from H&M once and a while, I am not going to beat myself up about it.

However, it can also be really hard to be a fashion blogger and shop 90% secondhand. Most bloggers pick new things up all the time, gain income from affiliate links, and make a living out of showing new items of clothing. There has got to be another way to make my blog my living than that. I hope I’ve helped people realize you can buy so many wonderful and unique pieces secondhand. But then part of me wants to jump on the hype of affiliate links and whatnot. But I know I’ll never do that because I would never want to spend that much of my income on new clothes. But that is a post for a different day….

    The Spring Essentials

I made a youtube video of my top spring essentials last week but I realized I may have forgotten a few of them. All of these pieces are essentials when it comes to my wardrobe in March and April!

If you saw my Spring lookbook (here) you will have already seen this skirt recently. But I am so excited it is warming up a bit so I can wear it! This look is perfect for this time of year when it’s still a bit chilly but not cold enough that I need thick tights or anything. I actually picked this skirt up in the fall on sale at Old Navy and I am in love with it! I always thought I was too short for a midi skirt but I love this one. And I can wear it to work. Win!

And if you’ve followed this blog for any amount of time you’ll know I am a big advocate of the turtleneck. In fact, I might so a remix on this one! But for spring a thin turtleneck sweater like this is a must-have. Like my nude flats! I have to stop myself from wearing them every day.
