I’m a big proponent of packing away my summer clothes during winter and vice versa. I think it keeps my wardrobe exciting when the seasons change. But there are some summer dresses I can’t seem put away when the temperature drops. This Madewell dress is one of them! I wanted to showcase how you can wear a summer dress in winter by adding a few layers. I actually got this dress this summer from my good friend and it’s become a definite favorite. It works perfectly as a summer dress but it also looks adorable layered up!
The first layer to add is a comfy cardigan (or pullover sweater, whichever!). I haven’t featured this on the blog yet even though I’ve had it for a few months. It’s the most comfortable cardigan I own and you guessed it – it’s from the thrift store! It’s originally an Anthropologie piece, which is such a great deal considering I got it for around $2.50!
After throwing on a cardigan, you’ll need another layer to keep you extra toasty on these cold December days! I threw on my trusty Primark camel coat, which I love paired with the cardigan and dress because all of the items are around the same length, which adds a really nice silhouette. That’s also a great way to make yourself look a little taller.
To tie the look together, I threw on my camel booties, again which are secondhand!
I thought it was going to be more challenging trying to wear one of my favorite summer dresses in winter but turns out, all you need is a couple of cozy layers and you’re set! It wasn’t that cold when I shot these photos or I would have thrown on my chunky blanket scarf (in a nice gray to tie together the hat!).
Do you have any summer dresses you wear in winter? Let me know in the comments!
