Everlane Denim Review | Kick Flare Crop Jeans

I recently picked up a pair of Everlane denim jeans from a consignment shop. I’ve actually been waiting to try out their jeans for a while but couldn’t justify the price tag (they’re actually fairly reasonable for an ethical company but your girl is cheap!). So I was really happy when I found the High Rise Straight Leg Cropped Jeans in my size!! Keep in mind, I am only 4’9″ so these are supposed to be cropped but the length fits me wonderfully!

So let’s get on the review, shall we!?

    The Fit

I actually didn’t try these on in store. I figured I could resell them in they didn’t fit but they fit like a glove! As I mentioned, I am very petite so I believe these are the “cropped” version but fit me like a regular pair of jeans would. I will say these fit very true to size though. But there really is not much stretch at all! I’m a pretty true size 24/00/0 in the waist and these fit me snuggly around the waist. But I’m okay with that because normally I find I have a bit of gaping in my jeans at the waist! I would say if you like a bit of room in your jeans I’d say size up because these do not have much stretch.

    The Feel

I’ll be honest, I haven’t worn a pair of real denim “jeans” in a long time. I’m pretty into my jeggings (but look like real jeans!) or stretchy jeans. But these are a much thicker, true denim material. At first, I found them a little snug around my hips but over time, as I wore them throughout the day, they got very comfortable! They definitely loosen up but not too much that they lose their shape, which is great! They don’t become too baggy or unflattering as the day wears on so I am a fan. At first, I thought I would hate them with their lack of stretch but they have really grown on me and are quite comfortable. I’m even wearing them on my couch while I write this (which is saying something because I am a serial joggers wearer when I’m working from home!).

    Where to find them

I actually picked up my jeans at a consignment store. But as Everlane has been gaining popularity, I’ve been finding at it more at regular thrift stores. Of course, that takes a lot more time and luck, but I have found some wonderful pieces that are secondhand from the brand! I would check out their website though as they often have “Pay what you can” sales, which seems like a pretty good deal to me. I’ve also found some really nice and high-quality pieces on Poshmark for a fraction of the price! So I’d definitely do some digging to find some good deals on the brand. But they are fairly sustainable so I wouldn’t mind picking them up from their website either if you’re looking for a good pair of jeans! I might even pick up a black pair when Fall rolls around again.

    So are they worth it?

Overall I’d give these jeans an 8/10! My first impression was that they were stiff and uncomfortable but they definitely loosen up a bit so they become really comfortable! The fit is really nice too and I love the raw hem. As with most Everlane pieces I’ve picked up, I can tell that they are such high-quality denim that will last me a long time. So I’d say if you are in the market for a new pair of jeans I would take a look at Everlane!

    Spring Trends for Petite Women

    Spring trends for petite women

Ah, trends. You either love or you hate them, right? As a petite woman (it feels weird calling myself a woman for some reason??) it can be hard to wear some trends because they just do NOT suit my body type. But I have some great spring trends this season for petite women! I have found a few trends that I like solely because of the fact that they fit my body in the way clothes should fit in the first place!

I didn’t realize it until recently but there are some definite trends that work perfectly for a petite girl.  For example crop tops and “ankle jeans” – both of which I have become a big fan of! And not because I can wear jeans that stop at my ankle but rather, ankle jeans just fit me like regular jeans! And cropped tops? Stop at the perfect place on my hips (unless they are really, really short).

As someone who is only 4’9″, it is definitely a struggle to find clothes that fit me without having to go to a tailor.  But that’s when I just have to make the trends work for me. And it’s not because I consider myself a particularly trendy person. It is just nice to have clothes that fit for once!

I am pretty sure this top was meant to be a flowy crop top for someone but for me, it fits perfectly! A lot of the times tops on me are just way. too. long. (even the cami I’m wearing underneath had to be tucked in because it was so long!) so I was really happy to find this super cute top for spring fit me so wonderfully! Plus it is a nice chiffon material so very breezy and comfortable.

My jeans are (sadly) not thrifted. My one vice when it comes to shopping retail is petite sections and shoes. These jeans are from LOFT, which has a great petite section! So I think they are supposed to be “ankle” fit but they fit me like a glove! I love the little detail on the hem. I never thought I could partake in that trend because all of my pants need to be hemmed or rolled up to fit!

Also – how cute is this ruffle detail on this top?? I can’t get over it! Another petite styling trick for the ruffle trend – find smaller ruffles! Big ones just look soooo silly on me but this little ruffle on the top is the perfect proportion for my frame!

    Spring Working from Home Uniform

    Working from home uniform

Since working from home I have created a somewhat uniform for myself if I know I’m hardly leaving the house for the day. I have worked remotely for almost an entire year! I’ve mentioned it quite a few times, but my style has changed a lot since I started working from home full time.

Sometimes I forget that I used to work in an office every day. In July, I will have worked remotely for a year! Last week I actually went into the office for a few days. It wasn’t bad but let’s just say I like that I don’t have to do it every day.

    Now, onto my uniform…

    My work from home Uniform

    1. The comfortable pair of pants

I have quite a few criteria when picking out a pair of pants if I am working from home. I picked up these J.crew ones to resell but (of course) I kept them because they were just so comfortable! So my criteria for finding the best and most comfy pair of pants is as follows:

    1) elastic waistbands! I have no patience for wearing uncomfortable pants now that I work from home every day. I used to wear dress pants to the office on occasion but now, I really do not see the point suffering through uncomfortable pants when I don’t need to!

    2) Loose and comfortable – I will on occasion wear leggings or yoga pants but I’ve found slouchy pants like these I thrifted (but originally j.crew!) are much more comfortable! I also don’t feel quite as much like a slob if I am wearing cute pants like this! I think they definitely pass as a cute pair of pants rather than Pjs.

    3) Pockets (ideally) – These pants sadly do not have pockets, which can be somewhat annoying when I am heading somewhere but if I’m just at home all day it’s not such a big deal. But ideally, I’d love everything I own to have some good good pockets.

    2. the sneaker I can wear everywhere

I have become quite the fiend of comfortable sneakers (preferably slip on but I do have a few with laces!). I have become a huge fan of slip-on shoes now that I work from home because they are the easiest thing to throw on when I want to go to a coffee shop or walk to the store. I found my white pair at target (and apparently Cat & Jack have a lifetime warranty!!). Funnily enough, someone at a store pointed out we had the same shoes on! I do need to throw them in the wash soon as they are getting quite dirty but what can you do?

    3. Cute but comfortable top

When I worked in an office I used to LOVE wearing a cute (and sometimes whimsically printed) button down. Button downs were such a staple in my wardrobe but now I don’t find myself reaching for them as much. I’d much rather just grab a top I can throw on but might look a little bit cuter and put together than a t-shirt. That’s where the cute but comfortable top comes in! I thrifted this one but I’ve found countless the past few months at the thrift store that I’ve definitely got my wardrobe stocked with cute and cozy tops.

    Finding What You’re Looking for

One thing I love about thrifting is you somehow can always find what you’ve been looking for – if you look hard enough. I have been looking for a cute overall dress for a while now that didn’t make me look like a 12-year-old. I’ve tried on countless ones from thrifting to regular retailers. All of them made me look like a 12-year-old! Until I found this adorable black one originally from Urban Outfitters. I think it is subtle enough that it doesn’t look so much like overalls but rather a black dress. But it is perfect for layering! I can’t wait to fall when I wear it with a turtleneck but for spring, I think it works perfectly with this striped top.

My striped top has been a surprising favorite of mine for the past year or so. I picked it up at my favorite thrift store when they were having a $1 sale but it is French Connection! It’s a great quality t-shirt and I just adore the colors on it. I have definitely gotten my cost per wear out of this shirt too especially considering it was only $1. Gotta love thrifting!

My shoes sadly aren’t thrifting. I still find shoes the hardest things for me to find so if anyone has any ethical brands that make very small shoe sizes, let me know!! These are actually from Payless, which I am sad is closing. All of their shoes (if you can still find one open…) are on major clearance, which is why I picked up these adorable pink sneakers! I thrifted a pair of red keds a few years ago that eventually fell apart because I wore them so much and they were secondhand so I am really happy to have these as a replacement.

    Spring is here!

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I feel like I always say this when I go on a blogging hiatus but I definitely didn’t mean to be gone for so long! I was traveling for a few weekends and have overall been fairly busy but things are slowing down and I want to get back into blogging.

And you may have noticed… there is a new layout for Layers of Lee! Let me just say, I Don’t love it and I want to find something I love better but with all of the pipdig drama (thanks, Twitter!!) I decided it was better to be safe than sorry when it comes to my website’s security.

But anyways, with my return to blogging, I thought I’d do a good old outfit post with some favorites for spring!

Sometimes (normally when it’s changing seasons) I feel the need to go check out the mall to 1) see the new trends so I can keep track for my Poshmark and know to look out for a 2) see if there is anything I really want in my life haha. I’ve mentioned it before but I only shop fast fashion so rarely now but when I do there is definitely a little bit of guilt! But when I tried on this wrap top, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for in my life. I’ve been looking for a wrap top (or even a dress!) that will fit me well. I find the top part just never fits correctly but this top from H&M has a clasp at the top that keeps everything in place, which is perfect!

It also happens to match my favorite thrifted Anthropologie pants perfectly! But I really love navy and yellow together as a color combination anyways so I was really happy to find this top as I think it’ll go with so many things – even a cute pair of denim shorts!

I thought these yellow pants would be mostly a fall staple but I think they’ll be perfect for spring too! Plus, how can you go wrong with a cute and comfortable pair of pants? And as always, I’m wearing my trusty nude flats. Another piece you really can’t go wrong with wearing. Comfortable, practical, and goes with everything!

I’ll keep this post short but I’m hoping to have new blog posts every Tuesday and Thursday!
